Every year, we participate in a local event called Merrick’s Walk.  Merrick’s Walk began in 2000 in memory of Merrick Ryan, a 19-year old Galloway School graduate who died from complications of anorexia. The 2.7-mile walk takes place each February at Chastain Park in Atlanta, Georgia and features a butterfly theme.

This year, Cookie’s Cookies will have a booth at the event, and we will be handing out free butterfly biscuits to our fellow dog owners.  In addition, we will be holding a raffle for a Cookie’s Cookies Gift Basket full of goodies!  Tickets for the raffle are $1 and all proceeds benefit the Eating Disorders Information Network.  EDIN is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the prevention of eating disorders, including anorexia, bulimia, compulsive overeating and other forms of disordered eating, through education, outreach and action.

In addition to the booth at the walk, Cookie’s Cookies will offer a Merrick’s Walk butterfly cookie for sale online.  A portion of the proceeds will also be donated to EDIN in Merrick’s honor.

This Saturday, December 5th, Cookie’s Cookies will be participating in a raffle at a Holiday Boutique in Bridgehampton, NY, with proceeds benefiting the Last Chance Animal Rescue Fund.  The Holiday Boutique promises to be a fun-filled family-friendly event, with everything from pooch pictures with Santa to vendors selling jewelry, candles, crafts, and specialty food items.  The event is located at 2405 Main Street in Bridgehampton, NY and will run from 11:00 am until 5:00 pm.  If you are in the Hamptons area, stop by this extravagant event and support a worthy cause!

Last Chance Animal Rescue Fund is a charitable, not-for-profit organization, created to save the lives of animals.  LCARF rescues animals that are located in “kill” facilities and underwrites the costs of relocating them to “no-kill” facilities in hopes of finding them a forever family. They work with local veterinarians for spay-neuter/ medical services until permanent placement is secured into a pre-screened loving home.  LCARF depends on donations to continue to save these helpless loving animals from being killed.

We are pleased to announce that Cookie’s Cookies is going green!  Here are some things we are doing to reduce our impact on the environment:

• Packaging – We use 100% recycled materials for our boxes.  (Our boxes can also be re-used for your own gift-giving if you’d like!)
• Shipping – We use biodegradable cornstarch packing “peanuts” and 100% recycled materials for our shipping boxes.
• Website hosting - We host our site with Dreamhost.com, a 100% carbon-neutral hosting company.
• Around the office – We use recycled paper and compact fluorescent lighting, drink filtered water instead of bottled, and make use of automatic shutoff timers on our electronics.  The majority of materials used in day-to-day business operations are recycled (paper, plastics, and so on). We even have a few plants here and there to help clean the air we breathe!

In the future, we plan to offer a premium 100% organic line of treats, which will support our local growers. In the meantime, we are constantly looking for ways to reduce our carbon footprint while providing the freshest, healthiest treats for your dog!
